THE SHELTER

The Shelter and its rooms The Shelter is located in Granaglione, Europe’s greenest district, 70 km from Bologna (Italy). It is 1300 metres above sea level. It is provided with: 18 beds (3 bedrooms);  2 dining rooms; 1 wide room where feasts, meetings, lectures, and conferences can be held; 1 small room with a coffee bar. All the bedrooms are provided with bunk beds, wardrobes, and heating. There are 2 bathrooms to be shared. The Shelter has recently been restructured, enlarged (there are now 3 big dining rooms instead of the original 2), and  practicable for disabled people. Cooking Monte Cavallo Shelter is well known for its local mountain dishes: home made pasta (tortelloni, tagliatelle), venison, polenta, mushrooms, dishes prepared using chestnuts (necci, castagnaccio, polenta), local desserts. All the dishes are accompanied with good Italian wine, but also with BELTAINE CHESTNUT BEER, produced in Granaglione district (www.beltaine.it), also used to prepare special dishes. The area surrounding the Shelter Outside the Shelter there is a wide area equipped with tables, benches, and a fountain. Close to the Shelter there is the “Bivacco del Pellegrino” (the “Pilgrim Bivouac”): it is a room with a fireplace and table, open every day and hour of the year  to give shelter to wayfarers.
